Position of the Board of Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego – Poznań Sp. z o.o.
in a case of press article published by Radio ZET on 18.07.2024, under the title „Parts for Iran’s combat drones from polish state own company. We disclose the findings of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW)”, whose author is Mr. Mariusz Gierszewski.
The Board of Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego – Poznań Sp. z o.o. would like to respond to the information contained in the press article.
Article published by Radio Zet on 18.07.2024, insinuates participation of WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o. in supplying the Iranian arms industry and the use of components manufactured by the Company for the purpose of manufacturing combat drones by Iran, with reference to the model Shahed 136.
Company unequivocally denies this information.
WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o. did not supply its products to the Iranian defence sector.
The information quoted by the journalist Mr. Mariusz Gierszewski, it probably dates back to 2022, and was published in a report by „ INSTITUTE FOR SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY”. The parts of the fuel system mentioned in the report were not manufactured by WSK Poznań sp. z o.o.
The full text of the report can be found at the link https://isis-online.org/isis-reports/detail/iranian-drones-in-ukraine-contain-western-brand-components%20
The fact that there is no evidence of the use of WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o. products in the construction of combat drones was also confirmed by prosecutor Mr. Przemysław Nowak on 18.07.2024
From a technical point of view, the pumps manufactured by WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o. do not meet the basic technical assumptions for use in drone constructions, which are quoted in the article. Drones Shahed 136 are equipped with an MD550 two-stroke, four-cylinder engine, powered by spark-ignition carburetors, whose “dry” weight does not exceed 16 kg. On the other hand, the pumps manufactured by the Company are licensed versions of rotary pumps for use in compression ignition diesel engines with a power not exceeding 120 HP used in agricultural tractors with an injection system. The pumps manufactured by WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o. are not adapted to work with fuel other than diesel oil, the method of mechanical drive of the system and its weight, depending on the model, ranges from 5 to 11 kg (which would constitute from 30% to about 70% of the weight of the engine used in the construction of drones), excludes its possibility of using it in aircraft structures. The Company believes that this opinion will be confirmed by commissioned to an expert by the National Prosecutor’s Office as part of the investigation.
Pumps manufactured by Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego – Poznań, are designed in a technology that allows them to be used for many years and the product itself is relatively expensive. Which, in turn, means that there are no economical premises for the use of pumps in structures as disposable machines.
It is worth noting, that big amount of the parts included in the pumps manufactured by the WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o., they are marked with the manufacturer’s logo. In publicly available video materials, published by the Ukrainian side, from inspections of engines recovered during hostilities, there are no parts from Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego – Poznań.
The fact is that the National Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the sale of products (fuel pumps with the status of dual-use goods) without the appropriate permit. However, the issue of the Ukrainian side finding parts and pumps from WSK – Poznań or the Company’s supply to Iranian drone manufacturers, does not appear in the efficient process.
Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego – Poznań Sp. z o.o. calls the journalist Mr. Mariusz Gierszewski and Radio Zet newsroom to publish an extensive correction and apology for the information contained in the article that is inaccurate and harmful to the Company’s image.
The publication of the article and the reference to it by foreign media made it impossible to continue business talks with new customers and put a question mark over cooperation with current business partners. This means that the situation of the Company, which is not in the best condition, deteriorated dramatically within one day.
